Practical Task
Turn a confusing bill into plain English and questions to ask
Have AI organize the charges, changes, fees, and unclear lines so your next call starts with better questions — including when an offer, order confirmation, or prior bill shows a different price.

What this helps you do
Anyone staring at a utility, medical, telecom, insurance, or service bill that does not make intuitive sense.
What you need
- The relevant bill pages or charges
- A prior bill if you are investigating a change
- The original offer or order confirmation too, if the problem is 'I was quoted one price and billed another'
Do it step by step
- 1
Redact account numbers, full payment details, medical identifiers, and other information the explanation does not need.
- 2
Upload or paste the relevant bill lines and identify which document is the current bill.
- 3
Ask AI to explain each major charge in plain language and distinguish recurring charges, usage charges, taxes/fees, one-time adjustments, and credits.
- 4
If you have a prior bill, ask for a line-by-line explanation of what changed.
- 5
If you also have an offer or order confirmation, compare the stated recurring price, equipment/add-ons, promotions/credits, one-time charges, and total across the sources. Mark silent fields as 'not stated' rather than guessing why the totals differ.
- 6
Turn only the remaining unclear or surprising items into a concise question list for the provider. Verify the provider's actual terms before disputing anything.

Explain this bill in plain language. Separate recurring charges, usage, taxes/fees, one-time adjustments, and credits. Flag anything that changed or is unclear, but do not label a charge incorrect unless the documents prove that. If I also provide an offer, order confirmation, or prior bill, compare the stated recurring price, equipment/add-ons, promotions/credits, one-time charges, and total across the sources. Use 'not stated' when a source is silent and do not invent the reason for a mismatch. End with a short list of questions I can ask the provider. Sources: [PASTE/UPLOAD].
Helpful checkWhat a good result looks like
You can describe why the current total is what it is, identify exactly where a quoted/order/bill price diverges when the sources show it, and ask focused questions about what remains unresolved.
Tips and watch-outs
- AI may misread scanned tables. Compare important numbers with the original bill.
- Keep an original offer screenshot or confirmation when price is the dispute; later account pages may not preserve what you accepted.
- For medical or insurance bills, use the explanation to ask better questions rather than assuming the AI understands your coverage rules.
OptionalGo deeper when you want to
Treat the bill explanation and the price dispute as two different jobs
First make the current bill legible: recurring service, usage, equipment/add-ons, taxes/fees, one-time adjustments, and credits. Only then compare prior documents when the user is investigating a change or a quoted-price mismatch.
That sequence prevents an expected total from becoming the explanation. The current bill may already show the arithmetic even when the reason or authorization for one line still needs the provider to answer.
Use source language for consequential charges
When a line is important enough to dispute, preserve the provider's actual label and amount. A plain-English paraphrase can sit beside it, but should not replace the source wording in the evidence packet.
If an offer or order confirmation is part of the problem, keep those documents separate and use the dedicated reconciliation Task when the comparison becomes the main job.
- Explained by the bill itself.
- Changed from the prior bill.
- Different from the offer/order evidence.
- Still unresolved and needs the provider to explain.
Make the provider question list smaller than the bill
Once the bill is organized, remove questions the documents have already answered. A support call becomes much easier when the user can point to the exact line, amount, and source of the remaining uncertainty.
For each unresolved item, ask one factual question and one confirmation question about the ongoing account state instead of sending a generic demand to explain the whole bill again.
